Stress and overuse of the senses are among the most significant factors that age us, robbing the skin of its vitality and leaving the body feeling depleted. True beauty and resilience begin within, by nourishing the mind and supporting the delicate balance of prana and udana vata. Meditation is the ultimate way to de-stress, but equally vital is caring for vata dosha, the queen of the doshas. As the governing energy of movement, vata influences every aspect of the body and mind and holds the key to maintaining vibrant health.
Karna purana, the practice of applying warm oil to the ears, is a powerful Ayurvedic ritual to pacify vata dosha and support both prana and udana vata. This gentle practice nourishes hearing, creates a buffer between the senses and external stressors, and fosters a deep connection to the space around you while guiding your awareness inward. To perform karna purana, tilt your head to one side and apply 5-7 drops or ½ a dropper of warm oil into one ear. Allow it to absorb for a minute, then place a small cotton ball in the ear to retain the oil. Repeat on the other side.
Our Karna Oil is lovingly crafted with Organic Sesame Oil, Sunflower Oil, Calamus and Dashamula, creating a blend that calms the senses and restores balance. By integrating this sacred practice into your self-care routine, you invite peace, clarity, and harmony into your life while deeply nourishing your connection to the world within and around you.
Ingredient Health Benefits
Calamus
Known as Vacha in Sanskrit, Calamus is a powerful herb for awakening clarity, sharpening the senses, and grounding excess Vata. In Ayurveda, it is used to support nervous system health, improve speech, and clear mental fog. Calamus also strengthens the pranic flow in the head and neck, making it ideal for ear, nose, and throat formulations. Its warm, stimulating energy revives sluggishness and enhances connection to one’s inner wisdom.
Dashamula
A revered blend of ten Ayurvedic roots, Dashamula is deeply balancing for Vata dosha. It soothes inflammation, supports the nervous system, strengthens the lungs, and calms pain and restlessness in the body. Dashamula is often used in body oils and therapies to restore stability, support elimination, and nourish the subtle tissues with grounding earth energy.
Organic Sesame Oil
Rich, warming, and deeply nourishing, Sesame Oil is the traditional Ayurvedic base oil for abhyanga (self-massage). It calms Vata, lubricates the joints, strengthens the nervous system, and penetrates the tissues with its potent antioxidant properties. This sacred oil is considered a carrier of prana, delivering herbal intelligence into the deepest layers of the body.
Organic Sunflower Oil
Light, cooling, and rich in Vitamin E, Sunflower Oil moisturizes and soothes the skin without heaviness. It is particularly beneficial for calming Pitta, supporting a clear, even complexion, and gently delivering herbal properties into the tissues. Sunflower oil’s solar energy brings a sense of warmth and harmony to both the body and the subtle field.
